Materials:
  • WW yarn: about 4 oz. MC (5 oz. if not using CB)
  • Crochet hook size F
  • About 1 1/2 oz. CB (optional)
  • Small amount pink for front of ears
  • Small amount green for eyes
  • Small amount color of choice for collar
  • Scrap of black for pupil
  • Fiberfill
  • Straight pins
Gauge: 4 sc = 1 inch, 4 sc rows = 1 inch.
Finished Size: (approximate) 13 inches tall.

Head (Make 2 sections)
Row 1: With MC and starting at top of head, ch 11, work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook and 2 sc in next ch, sc in each remaining ch to last 2 chs, 2 sc in each of last 2 chs, ch 1, turn. (14 sc)
Row 2: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (16 sc)
Row 3: Work 2 sc in each next 3 sc, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in each next 3 sc, ch 1, turn. (22 sc)
Rows 4 & 5: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (26 sc)
Rows 6 & 7: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Rows 8 - 11: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (34 sc)
Rows 12 - 14: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

Starting at row 26 and working up and around to opposite side of row 26 sew the edges of the 2 head sections together, leaving the sc of row 26 open.
Stuff head firmly, do not close.
Body (Make 2)
Row 1: With MC and starting at bottom of body, ch 21, work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook
and in each remaining ch to last ch, 2 sc in last ch, ch 1, turn. (22 sc)
Row 2: Work 2 sc in each next 2 sc, sc in next 18 sc, 2 sc in each next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.
(26 sc)
Row 3: Work 2 sc in each next 2 sc, sc in next 22 sc, 2 sc in each next 2 sc, ch 1, turn.
(30 sc)
Row 4: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Sc in next sc, 2 sc in each next 3 sc, sc in next 22 sc, 2 sc in each next 3 sc, sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (36 sc)

Row 24: (Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice, sc in next 18 sc, (decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice, ch 1, turn. (22 sc)
Row 25: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 26: Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each remaining sc to last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (20 sc)
Row 27: (Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) 10 times, ch 1, turn. (10 sc)
Row 28: Sc in each sc across, fasten off.
Starting at row 28 and working down and around up to opposite side of row 28 sew the edges of the 2body sections together, leaving the sc of row 28 open. Stuff body firmly, do not close.
Sew the head and body sections together by sewing rnd 26 of head to row 28 of body,
add more filling at neckline, making it firm (so neck isn't floppy) before closing.
Ears:
Front Section (Make 2)
Row 1: With pink yarn and starting at top point of ear, ch 3, work 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (3 sc)
Row 2: 2 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rows 3 - 5: Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each remaining sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1,
turn. (12 sc)
Row 6: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each remaining sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
(14 sc)
Row 8:: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 9: Sc in each sc across, change to MC in last step of last sc, break off pink, ch 1, Do Not Turn.
Edging: With MC work sc evenly down side of ear to top point, work 3 sc in point of ear, work sc evenly up side to row 9 of ear, join with a sl st in first sc of row 9. Fasten
off.
Back Section of Ear (Make 2)
Row 1: With MC and starting at top point of ear, ch 2, work 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch
1, turn. (3 sc)
Row 2: Work 2 sc in first sc, 3 sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Row 3: Work (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2sc) twice, 2 sc in last sc. ch 1, turn. (10 sc)
Row 4: 2 sc in first sc, sc sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in each next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (14 sc)
Row 5: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in each next 2 sc, sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in last
sc, ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Row 6: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Work 2 sc in first sc, sc in each remaining sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
(20 sc)
Row 8: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 9: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, Do Not Turn.
Edging: Work sc evenly down side of ear to top point, work 3 sc in point of ear, work sc
evenly up side to row 9 of ear, join with a sl st in first sc of row 9. Fasten off.
With a length of MC yarn, having one front and one back section together to form one
ear, sew together over ear edging sts, leave bottom of ear open and stuff ear firmly. Do not close.
Pin ears into place at top of head over rows 2 - 11 of head - by lining up the sewn seams of ears to sewn seams of head. The front ear section should overlap the front of hear and the back section of ear should overlap the back of head. With a length of MC yarn, sew ears into place adding more stuffing if necessary before closing.
Feet (Make 4 sections)
Note: If using CB, make 2 foot sections MC and 2 foot sections CB, then sew one of
each together to form foot as written in directions.
If not using CB work all 4 sections with MC only.
Row 1: Ch 6, work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 chs, 2 sc in last ch, ch 1, turn.(7 sc)
Row 2: Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in each next 3 sc, sc in next 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (10 sc)
Rows 3 - 6: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Sc in each sc across, fasten off.
Sew 2 foot sections together to form one foot, stuff firmly before closing and sew feet to row 5 of bottom of body.
Front Legs (Make 2)
Notes: Front legs will be worked in rounds. It is important to work the join, ch1, turn at
the end of each round for shaping.
When starting new round be sure to skip the turning ch 1 and the joining sl st.
Pattern is written using MC only.
If using CB, start one leg with MC and change to CB at the end of a round as far up leg
as desired, then break off MC, finish pattern with CB. Then reverse the yarn color for the second leg.
If not using CB, work both legs in MC only.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in each next 6 sc, sc in next 6 sc, join, ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: Sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in each next 4 sc, sc in next 4 sc, join, ch 1, turn. (22 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 6: Sc in next 10 sc, (decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) 4 times, sc in next 4 sc, join, ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Rnd 7: Sc in next 4 sc, (decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice, sc in next 10 sc, join, ch 1,
turn. (16 sc)
*Start stuffing legs at about rnd 12 and continue to stuff as work progress*
Rnds 8 - 24: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 25: (Sc in next 6 sc, decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice, join, ch 1, turn. (14 sc)
Rnd 26: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off.
Making sure legs are stuffed firmly, sew opening at rnd 26 close and sew legs to body
over row 25 of body 3 sc from side seams.
Tail

Note: If using CB, start with rnd 1with MC, change to CB at the end of 16 then break off MC and continue pattern in CB. If not using CB work tail pattern in MC only.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 3: Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, join, ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Rnds 4 & 5: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 6: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each remaining sc around, join, ch 1,turn. (8 sc)
Rnds 7 - 10: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 11: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, join, ch 1, turn. (10 sc)
Rnds 12 - 16: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 17: (Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, join, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)

Stuff tail lightly and sew and a slight angle to back of body over rows 8 - 14 of body.
Tack side of tail to body to keep in place.
Eyes (Make 2)
Row 1: (This row starts the inside corner of eye) With green and at inside corner of
eye, ch 2, work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)
Row 2: 2 sc in first sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)
Rows 3 & 4: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 5: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rows 6 & 7: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 8: Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, sc in each remaining sc to last 2 sc, decrease 1 sc
over last 2 sc, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)
Row 9: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 10: (Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc) twice, ch 1, turn. (2 sc)
Row 11: (This row makes the outside corner of eye) Decrease 1 sc over next 2 sc, ch 1,
Do Not Turn.
Edging: Work sc evenly around outer edge of eye having 2 sc in point at starting ch, join with a sl st to the sc of row 11. Fasten off.
With a length of black yarn embroider a pupil onto center of each eye.
With a length of green yarn sew eyes to face over rows 9 - 15, pointing the outside
corners of eyes pointing at a slight upward angle.
Muzzle
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. Join, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around, join, ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: Sc in each sc around, join, ch 1, turn.
Rnd 5: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) repeat around, join, Fasten off. (24 sc)
Sew muzzle to center of face under the eyes. Stuff firmly before closing.
With a length of pink yarn, embroider nose and mouth to muzzle.
Collar
Row 1: With color of choice ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch
across, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)
Rows 2 - 30: Sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 31: Sc in each sc across, leaving a length of yarn for sewing, fasten off.
Being careful not to twist collar, place collar around cat's neck and sew row 31 to starting ch of row 1.
Weave in any remaining loose ends.

Elefante


MATERIALS REQUIRED
American Thread Company "Dawn" or
"Clover Leaf" Germantown Wool
7 – ½ oz. Balls White
2 – ½ oz. Balls Scarlet
Bone Crochet Hook #2.
The entire Elephant is worked in s c.
Ch 14 for front leg, work 13 s c on ch and work 8 more rows even.
10th Row. Increase 1 st at end of row and work 1 row even.
Repeat the last 2 rows.
14th Row. Repeat 10th row and work 3 rows even.
18th Row. 1 s c in each s c, ch 30, turn and work 29 s c on ch and 1 s c in each s c.
20th Row. Increase 1 st at end of row and work 3 rows even.
24th Row. Increase 1 st at end of row.
25th Row. 1 s c in each of the first 15 s c, turn and work 5 rows on 15 s c even.
31st Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times.
41st Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row.
42nd Row. Decrease 1 st at end of row. Repeat the last 2 rows, break yarn, and work another section.
HIND LEG. Join yarn in 1st s c and work 1 s c in 1st 14 s c, 2 s c in next s c, ch 1, turn and work 2 rows even.
4th Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows.
8th Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 10 rows even, break yarn and work another section.
HEAD. Join yarn in 1st s c in front leg and work 1 s c in each of the 1st 8 s c, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. 1 s c in each s c, ch 20, turn.
3rd Row. 19 s c on ch, 1 s c in each s c and work 9 rows even.
13th Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows 5 times.
25th Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row.
26th to 31st Row. Decrease 1 st at the beginning and end of each row, break yarn.
TRUNK. Join wool in 1st s c at lower part of head and work 1 s c in each of the 1st 14 s c, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. 1 s c in each s c.
3rd Row. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row and work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows 5 times.
15th to 18th Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row.
19th, 21st, 23rd Rows. Increase 1 st at beginning of row.
20th, 22nd & 24th Rows. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work 1 row even.
26th Row. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row and work 4 rows even. Work 1 row of s c across front of trunk, working 1 s c in every other row.
This shapes the trunk, break yarn and work other half to correspond.
SADDLE. Join Scarlet in 1st free s c next to head, turn, sl st into 1st row of head, turn, s c in st with joining, 1 s c in each s c across back, sl st into side of next row, turn, s c in each s c, sl st into side of work and continue working back and forth, working 2 rows of s c in Scarlet for each row of White until all rows of White have been worked up, break yarn and repeat for other side.
Work 2 sections following the first 23 rows given and work hind leg following directions given for hind leg.
FEET. Ch 2, 7 s c in first ch.
2nd & 3rd Rows. 2 s c in each s c and work 1 row even, break yarn and work 3 more feet.
EAR. Ch 21, 20 s c on ch.
2nd to 7th Rows. Increase at the beginning of row.
8th Row. Increase at end of row.
9th Row. 1 s c in each of the 1st 9 s c, sl st in each of the next 3 s c, ch 1, turn.
10th Row. Sl st in each sl st and s c in each s c.
11th Row. 1 s c in each s c, 1 s c in each sl st, then sl st over next 3 sts, ch 1, turn.
12th Row. Sl st in each sl st and s c in each s c.
13th Row. Same as 11th Row.
14th Row. Same as 12th Row.
15th Row. 1 s c in each st across entire row.
16th Row. Increase at end of row and work a row of s c across long side of ear, break yarn and work other ear to correspond.
TAIL. Ch 6, join, ch 1 and work 1 s c in each st, continue work until tail measures 3 ½ inches, then draw up loop on hook about 1 ½ inches long, * 1 s c in next s c, draw up a loop, repeat from * all around.
Break yarn and trim edge.
TUSKS. Ch 4, join, work same as tail until work measures 3 inches, break yarn, leaving 8 inch end, thread needle and drawn yarn through tusk and back again, drawing it up slightly to shape.
Sew sections together, leaving an opening at the bottom for filling.
Set in the section for feet, fill and sew up. Attach ears, tail and tusks. Embroider the eyes in Tan with Brown French Knot in the center.
The elephant may also be made in "Dawn" Knitting Worsted.
